Sheep Day 2012

Today was Sheep Day at Unique Cottage Studios. It was a grey day (and quite cold) so the decision was made to do my demonstrations in the studio rather than outside. This was the tent in the courtyard from the studio window. It was great to see so many new people today and have old friends come for a visit.
With all the dyeing and people visiting the studio got quite warm. I did chemical wool dyeing this morning on spun  yarn (Blue faced Leicester) and some natural dyeing in the afternoon on fleece. My wool dyeing workshop at the studio has now had to be changed to Wednesday June 20th 2012. There are two places left. Please contact me if you would like any more information.
I was caught mid action on this image. Tina managed to get my best half (!). I can't remember what I was doing but seem to be pointing to the indigo sample pinned up.
Its not a clear photo but the fabrics on the left are from the tulip bundle this week. The middle piece is now a stitched sample.
Wendy showed people how to make some fantastic woolly pendants and  Tina was stitching into blankets. Thank you both for being there.

It was so busy that I didn't get any photos of the sheep nor alpacas. I did get a 50g bag of alpaca fleece though to play with.

Thanks to everyone who came and the May newsletter will be out next week.

Moving In Day

Today was "moving in" day though not a lot got moved!! This was a photo at the start of the day and very little changed by the end
I left this sample from the Stitch for Texture workshop hanging over the stair banner.
Jo from Unique Studios managed to get a photo of most of the artists, Carol, Tony, Ernie and myself.
Twisted Thread are now taking bookings for workshops for Festival of Quilts 2012. This year I am teaching one half day academy workshop, one children's workshop and two quick and easy sessions. I have been going at Festival of Quilts for the past ten years (where has the time gone?) and love the fact that I can meet up with lots of friends, some who don't live in this country. Lots of exciting things to look forwards to (and kits to make up)

New Studio

After feeling sorry for myself, being very ill for the past week and taking oral steroids I am going to share my exciting news (I am sure lots of you have guessed though). This Thursday I will be moving into my new studio in Spalding. I have taught at Unique Studios since it began and I feel it a very peaceful and creative place to be.
The studio is on the first floor, you can see the three windows
It has this courtyard outside which will be perfect for indigo and woad vats. I can just imagine fabrics blowing in the wind to dry.
Views from the upstairs windows looking out of both sides.
I will be sharing the space with Carol Parker, if you don't know her check out her blog here. We are planning an exciting opening event if you can join us. More details soon.
